Houston Cougar Coach Kelvin Sampson has to be taken very seriously as March Madness gets underway. He has won 69% of all games he has coached and 77% of his games at Houston.
Coach Sampson has been in the NCAA Tournament 18 times with 4 different teams, including 2 Final Fours and 2 Elite Eights.
We recall listening to Iowa State Coach Tim Floyd’s postgame show around 1994 or 1995 when Kelvin Sampson made his transition from Washington State Cougars to the Oklahoma Sooners. Coach Floyd went to some length explaining what a great coach was coming into the (then) Big Eight conference. Tim Floyd is a thoughtful person and his comments were unsolicited. That captured our attention.
If somebody can challenge UConn this year, we think it could be Houston.
