No justice, no peace! No justice, no peace! No justice, no peace!
That was chanted at the rally for Trayvon Martin held in New York City today. I agree.
It shouldn’t take the expertise of a lawyer or judge, nor the experience of a police officer, to understand something was dreadfully wrong in the incident with George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. An armed police officer confronts an unarmed teenager, and somehow an “altercation ensues where the teen is shot in the heart from point blank range”? There’s something “rotten in the state of Denmark” to quote Hamlet.
And then did you see Zimmerman’s reaction at his not guilty verdict?! He barely reacted…as if he knew he was getting off scot-free! Sad.
Jay Z and Beyoncé attended the rally. They didn’t speak, but they didn’t have to…their star presence was enough and exuded support. They were also snapped in a picture with the Reverend Al Sharpton and put on Instagram.
Even President Obama has been expressing his grave concern in this matter. He was quoted: “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.” That says it all.
